Once upon a time, Jill Seale had a busy graphic design studio in Washington D.C., designing for events, advertising, corporate and political projects...
But something was brewing...inside she had a deep yearning, a need to paint. Ohhh, she illustrated and handlettered for her projects wherever she could,
"keeping the human touch" in her work.
Was that just her excuse to illustrate...to handletter?
Maybe so, but it just wasn't enough.
How much longer could this little charade continue before
she threw it all to the wind to run off with her paints?
Fifteen years until... In a creative burst, she pillaged through her miles of files and piles of pictures of things she loved, wanted, craved, yearned for. She thought about what made her laugh, what made her happy to be surrounded with. Jill wanted Paris at her fingertips, flowers that bloom year round, bees that don't sting...and she made the monumental decision to hand paint these things on linens so she could 'have it all.' She offered them to stores and they ate them up.
It wasn't long before the orders were overwhelming from shops around the country looking for Jill's handpainted designs, so she began licensing her art to manufacturers. You can now find the Jill Seale brand on dinnerware, greeting cards, stationery, calendars, ceramics, glassware, cocktail accoutrements, apparel, textiles and baby and children's products.
Her designs have won national awards and have been commissioned for the White House, Kennedy Center, premier Washington events, Hollywood events, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, actors, embassies, brides, grooms and the man in the moon. During her time in Washington she was honored to design the logo for the national monument
Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
Jill comes armed with a sense of humor from years of 'combat sarcasm' with her siblings. She is genetically programmed with artistic ability from Mom, and formally trained with a degree in Fine Arts, courtesy of Dad. Her unique wit and playful illustrative hand offer a royally fun brand of whimsy!
She loves to apply her talents to a community or philanthropic project. An avid runner and a marathoner, Jill now resides in Charlotte, NC with her dashing husband, brilliant daughter and Dean Martin, their black lab, whose idea of a dirty martini is pond water.
In 2009 Jill did her first "Ask" call as part of the monthly series from ArtLicensingInfo.com. Artists submitted lots of great questions and she gave great answers. Now Jill is open to providing one on one coaching as well - still remembering how hard it was to figure out the 'whole art licensing thing' when she began.
And the paint flows happily ever after...
